Costume Drama with the Asheville Community Theatre

A few days ago Blossoms designer Carly Robbins participated in the Costume Drama fundraising event for the Asheville Community Theatre. Here is a great description of the event from ACT’s website:

“In this Project Runway-esque show, local designers will create a unique look using materials in one of four categories: feathers, floral, paper, or tape. Winners receive cash prizes ($500 for the overall winner, and $250 for the winner of each category) - and you can help them win by voting on the top designs!  Remember, this is a fundraiser!  So, for category, winners will be determined by fundraising-style voting – $1 to ACT equals 1 vote.  The Overall Winner will be determined by popular vote.”

Our girl Carly aced the flowers category with her wedding-inspired dress made completely out of live blooms. Cady Barrett, another Blossoms team-member/amazon woman, modeled the dress. Lots of our folks helped out with accessories, fundraising, and rowdiness! We have such an awesome crew! We have a few pictures of Carly putting the piece together, it’s really amazing how sturdy and elegant she was able to make it.

And here is the finished product- so much of it had to be put together on-site, minutes before the show!

How amazing is this outfit? Carly used phaleanopsis orchids, fuji mums, silver-leaf protea, astilbe, aspidistra leaves, and spanish moss for this masterpiece. It must have weighed 40 pounds! Cady is a champ, she didn’t even break a sweat!

The Asheville Citizen Times compiled a an interesting video of the whole event- check it out here!

We’re still gathering tons of behind the scenes shots, so check out our Facebook for more pictures!
